About Glen McMillan
Glen McMillan is the founder and CEO of Children with Disability NZ, a New Zealand charity focused on inclusion, accessibility and better outcomes for disabled children and families.
Advocacy shaped by lived experience
Glen’s work is shaped by lived experience, practical advocacy and a strong belief that disabled children should be seen, heard and included in everyday community life.
His focus is on creating real-world change through accessible information, inclusive playground advocacy, disability awareness, online resources and practical tools that families, schools, councils and communities can use.
Building a network for inclusion
Glen has developed a growing network of websites connected to Children with Disability NZ. Each website has its own purpose, but all share the same goal: making inclusion easier to understand, easier to access and easier to put into practice.
Accessible Playgrounds NZ
Helping families find accessible, inclusive and wheelchair-friendly playgrounds across New Zealand.
Inclusive World NZ
Sharing children’s stories, flipbooks, audiobooks, posters and downloadable resources that help normalise disability and inclusion.
Sensory Sensations NZ
Helping children, families and educators better understand sensory experiences, sensory needs and inclusive learning.
Accessible playground advocacy
One of Glen’s major areas of advocacy is accessible and inclusive playground design. He believes playgrounds should be planned so disabled children can take part in play, not simply watch from the edge.
His work highlights the importance of wheelchair access, inclusive equipment, accessible surfacing, safe pathways, family facilities and lived-experience input when councils and communities design public play spaces.
Using digital skills for community good
Glen has many years of experience in website design, search engine optimisation and online communication. He now uses those skills to build practical websites that support disability awareness, accessibility and inclusion.
This work helps make information easier to find online and gives families, councils, schools and community groups access to resources that may otherwise be difficult to locate.
A practical vision for inclusion
Glen believes inclusion should not be treated as an afterthought. Whether the focus is playgrounds, education, sensory understanding, disability awareness or community access, disabled children and families should be considered from the beginning.
His approach is practical, direct and grounded in real-life experience. The aim is to create resources and advocacy tools that help people understand what inclusion looks like in everyday situations.
Working towards a more inclusive New Zealand
Through Children with Disability NZ and its connected websites, Glen continues to work towards a future where disabled children can play, learn, participate and belong alongside everyone else.
The message behind the work is simple: disabled children matter, families deserve better support, and inclusion should be built into communities from the start.
