What We Do...
We are a New Zealand-based registered charity (CC59148).
We strive to bring enjoyment to children's lives. Our current focus is on the lack of facilities in New Zealand that cater to disabled children.
Our mission? To make New Zealand the most disability-friendly region in the world. Let's start with playgrounds. We have reached our first target: contributing $10,000 towards a wheelchair swing for Waipu Park.
To provide more events for our disabled children, their parents, and siblings to enjoy togetherness.
To provide more usable and wheelchair-friendly outdoor sensory programs and equipment in public spaces. Our mission is to make every disabled child feel welcome in New Zealand.
Being the parents of a special child
"Parents of children with special needs create their own world of happiness and believe in things that others cannot yet see."
We Want To Make A Difference
A little Bit about Us...
We are a growing group of New Zealanders based in Northland that want to see our disabled children thrive and grow with others. We are looking to correct the wrongs and even the playing field.
We are referring to accessibility for our young disabled, many of whom require wheelchairs to get out in the community. We want to make the community accessible for everyone. FAQs here
Kids Book's
The fun-tastic part of our mission within Children with Disability New Zealand is to normalize disability. All children should be treated equally, and as they grow into adults, they will feel normal and accepted within society.
We have produced a small number of children's books that can be downloaded and bookmarked to read at any time. Our books feature both disabled and non-disabled children working as a team and playing together.
Often it is the disabled person that possesses the abilities required for completion of the game, but it is always a team effort. These books are downloadable and free to download and save to your device to read anytime.
Playgrounds...
The mother of a 9-year-old who suffers from a chromosome abnormality in Whangārei is disappointed playgrounds for children with disabilities aren't user-friendly, despite the district having 36 playgrounds and four skateboard parks.
An OIA request filed with the Ministry of Health reveals there are 372 children under 18 in Whangārei (799 in Northland and 13,960 in New Zealand) who are allocated disability support through Needs Assessment Service Coordination Services as of August 2, 2021.
C.W.D Current Projects...
Children with Disability New Zealand is currently fundraising for an accessible seesaw for Raumanga Park.
Our charity was formed following a meeting between three people looking for a missing wheelchair swing.
Kylee Ostermann Charlie Bonner Germain and Glen McMillan teamed up. Kylee has a disabled son, Alex.
