About Children with Disability

About Us

Who We Are Children with Disability NZ is a charity dedicated to creating an equitable and inclusive society for disabled children. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to live, learn, and play without barriers. Our work combines community outreach, advocacy, and education to challenge stereotypes and promote understanding.

Our Journey Since our founding, we’ve focused on fundraising for accessible playground equipment, ensuring every child can experience the joy of play. While fundraising remains important, New Zealand’s recession has highlighted the need for systemic change. Today, our mission has expanded to include lobbying the Government, councils, and influential leaders to create a more inclusive society.

What Drives Us

  • Equality: Every child deserves the same opportunities, regardless of ability.
  • Inclusion: Communities thrive when everyone is valued.
  • Empowerment: Disabled children are capable, talented, and inspiring.

Let’s build a future where all children can flourish. [Get Involved]

Our Vision for Change

Our Vision for Change

Creating a Truly Inclusive New Zealand Achieving equality for disabled children requires more than just goodwill – it demands action. Here are the key changes we’re advocating for:

  1. Inclusive Playgrounds: Mandatory standards for accessible playgrounds in all communities to ensure every child can play without barriers.
  2. Education Reform: Training for teachers and school staff to better support disabled students and foster inclusive classrooms.
  3. Policy Change: Stronger government policies to prioritize accessibility in public spaces, transport, and housing.
  4. Community Awareness: Nationwide campaigns to shift perceptions, challenge stereotypes, and celebrate the potential of disabled children.
  5. Collaboration with Leaders: Engaging councils, businesses, and decision-makers to make inclusion a priority at all levels.

Lobby for Change

Why We Need to Lobby

Driving Systemic Change

While community-driven efforts and fundraising initiatives have made a difference, real and lasting change requires action at the policy level. By lobbying the Government, councils, and influential leaders, we can ensure that accessibility and inclusion are no longer optional but essential components of New Zealand’s future.

Key Areas of Advocacy:

  • Legislation & Policy: Pushing for laws that guarantee accessibility in public spaces, transport, education, and recreation.
  • Public Infrastructure: Ensuring that all new developments and renovations meet accessibility standards, making inclusion the norm, not the exception.
  • Education & Training: Advocating for better training for teachers, council members, and decision-makers to create informed and inclusive policies.
  • Funding & Resources: Lobbying for increased government funding to support inclusive initiatives in schools, playgrounds, and community spaces.

Why Your Support Matters Change doesn’t happen in isolation. By joining our movement, you add your voice to a growing call for justice and equality for disabled children. Together, we can ensure that every decision made at the highest levels considers the needs of all children, regardless of ability.

How You Can Help

  • Write to Your MP: Let decision-makers know that inclusion matters.
  • Attend Public Meetings: Advocate for change within your local council.
  • Sign Petitions: Support legislative efforts that prioritize accessibility.

Your voice has the power to shape the future. Join us in making New Zealand truly inclusive. [Take Action Now]
