Fundraising Without Barriers
Help Us Break Barriers and Make Inclusion Happen
Fundraising doesn't have to mean standing in front of crowds, organising public events or knocking on doors.
For people living with disabilities, communication difficulties, chronic health conditions or mobility limitations, traditional fundraising can present significant barriers.
At Children with Disability NZ, we understand these challenges through lived experience.
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to make a difference, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.
Through online fundraising, community partnerships and the generosity of supporters, we can work together to remove barriers and create a more inclusive New Zealand.
Why We Are Fundraising
The Technology Is Built. The Resources Exist. The Next Stage Is People.
Children with Disability NZ is a disability-led registered charity founded on lived experience, determination and a belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate fully in their community.
Our Founder and CEO, Glen McMillan, lives with significant disabilities, describing himself as 90% disabled. He is a wheelchair user and experiences chronic pain, breathing difficulties and a significant voice disability.
Of all these challenges, communication is one of the greatest barriers to growing our charity.
Glen has spent years developing websites, inclusive educational resources, accessible playground initiatives and digital tools designed to help disabled children, families and communities throughout New Zealand.
However, his voice disability makes verbal communication extremely difficult. People often struggle to understand his speech, making telephone conversations, meetings and building relationships with organisations particularly challenging.
This creates a significant barrier when contacting schools, working with councils, approaching potential sponsors and following up opportunities that could benefit the communities we serve.
We Have the Ideas, Experience and Technology. We Need the Communication Support.
Our charity has already established valuable projects, including Inclusive Education NZ and Accessible Playgrounds NZ.
We now need someone to connect this work with the people and organisations who can benefit.
We are fundraising to employ a Community Inclusion & Executive Support Coordinator for 12 months.
The coordinator will work alongside Glen, supporting verbal communication, community engagement, relationship building, project coordination, and networking.
This is not a personal care position. It is an organisational role designed to remove communication barriers, strengthen the charity's capacity, and help its disability-led leadership achieve more.
Our goal is simple: to ensure that a communication disability does not limit the positive impact our charity can make throughout New Zealand.
Together, we can turn years of voluntary work, lived experience, and innovation into more opportunities for disabled children, families, and communities.

How Your Donations Will Be Used
Our 12-month Community Inclusion & Executive Support Coordinator project has an $80,000 budget to cover employment, community outreach, communications, travel, equipment, and programme delivery.
Our wider fundraising target is $84,000, which includes an allowance for Givealittle fundraising fees.
We have already secured $4,666 in grant funding from Oxford Sports Trust Inc.
Our first public fundraising milestone is $20,000, with the longer-term goal of securing the funding needed to deliver the full 12-month programme.
We are committed to transparency and accountability. Our detailed Position, Investment & Impact Plan explains how we will allocate funding and measure the project's success.
Our Plan for Making Inclusion Happen
A Clear Plan. Measurable Goals. Real Community Impact.
We believe everyone who supports Children with Disability NZ deserves to know how their contribution will make a difference.
We have developed a comprehensive 12-Month Position, Investment & Impact Plan outlining our proposed Community Inclusion & Executive Support Coordinator role.
This 15-page document explains why the position is needed, how it will help overcome communication barriers, and how the coordinator will support our existing inclusive education and accessible playground initiatives.
Our plan includes:
- The coordinator's responsibilities and priorities.
- A structured 12-month work programme.
- Measurable targets for engaging schools, councils and communities.
- A detailed breakdown of the $80,000 project budget.
- Financial accountability, governance and reporting commitments.
- Our strategy for building stronger community partnerships and long-term sustainability.
We are not starting from scratch. We are investing in the people needed to expand work that is already underway.

What Your Support Will Help Us Achieve
Turning Donations Into Real Outcomes
Your support will help Children with Disability NZ employ a Community Inclusion & Executive Support Coordinator for 12 months, strengthening our ability to reach schools, work with councils, develop partnerships and support disabled communities.
We have established measurable goals so supporters can see what we are working towards.
Inclusive Education
- Contact 500+ New Zealand schools to introduce our inclusive educational resources.
- Complete 100+ meaningful follow-ups with schools and educators.
- Establish 30+ ongoing education relationships.
- Deliver 4+ targeted education awareness campaigns.
Accessible Playgrounds
- Expand our accessible playground directory from 33 to more than 50 listings.
- Engage with 20+ councils and local government contacts.
- Complete 10+ meaningful council and community follow-ups.
- Establish 5+ ongoing relationships with councils, communities and playground stakeholders.
Funding and Community Partnerships
- Support or submit 12+ quality funding applications.

Removing Communication Barriers
Most importantly, the coordinator will help remove the communication barriers that currently limit our charity's ability to connect with the wider community.
This will allow our Founder and CEO to concentrate more of his time on disability-led leadership, advocacy, website development, educational resources and inclusive playground initiatives.
These are our 12-month targets, not guaranteed outcomes. We will monitor progress and report on what your support has helped us achieve.
Together, we can turn existing resources and years of voluntary work into greater opportunities for disabled children, families and communities throughout New Zealand.
